We’re glad you’re here, and we hope you enjoy the ride. I couldn’t be more excited!
I’m Jillian Coleman Wheeler, and my beloved companion in life and adventure is my husband, Dempsey. I’m a writer and counselor, and Dempsey retired in 2018 from a career with the State of Texas. Until recently, our life has been full and very busy, raising our son and helping raise his sister’s three daughters, who came to live with us after their mom died.
These four youngest are all in their thirties now. We also have 10 grandchildren and a growing crop of great-grands. I have two children from my first marriage, both in their fifties, and I stay in touch with the foster children I helped raise. Family is the center of our lives.
I grew up living in cities and towns throughout the United States and Canada, and I got the travel bug early. Dempsey and I have traveled a lot in North America, but up to now, we haven’t made it off our own continent. Our plan was to travel beginning in 2017, the year I turned 70 and he was eligible to retire.
But as often happens, life had other plans for us, including his advanced cancer (he’s completely well now), a minor but stressful bout with cancer of my own, and at the end of 2018, a family tragedy with the death of our young adult granddaughter, Nicole. Then of course, 2020 and the Covid pandemic, which changed everything here and abroad.
All my life I have dreamed of traveling to every continent in the world, visiting all the countries that interest me. Now we’re doing it! We’re beginning with 15 weeks in Europe. We’re not rich, and there’s a lot we don’t know. We’ll be learning as we go, and sharing what we learn with you.
