One of our favorite things about Amsterdam: the Van Gogh museum. In addition to the several hundred paintings, the museum really introduces the brilliant, serious artist and man. As his psychosis began to overtake his life, he struggled to produce more and more art, at one point painting more than 70 canvases in 70 days. His brother, Theo, supported Vincent and in return owned the paintings. Theo died soon after Vincent, so Theo’s wife dedicated herself to making sure the paintings were exhibited and rose in value. Later, her son, also Vincent, carried on the legacy, and he was proactive in establishing the museum.
