Welcome
A 74-Year Old Woman with a Yen to See the World, a Husband Who’s Her Best Friend, and a Couple of Backpacks…
All my life, I’ve loved to travel. My dream has been to visit all the countries that interest me on every continent. Until last week, however, I’d never left North America.
I’ve been fortunate. We’ve traveled a lot in Canada, the United States and Mexico. And as much as I’ve enjoyed that, my soul has been hungry to go farther afield.
What’s stopped me?
Raising kids and foster kids, my counseling practice, my writing, sending people to college – that consumed many years. Then in 2017, when my husband was scheduled to retire and I was turning seventy, he was diagnosed with a very serious cancer. We spent much of that year at Cancer Treatment Center in Arizona, then in our little town in New Mexico to recover.
Later that year he had a heart attack, then two more over the subsequent years. He has a family history of heart disease, and it’s also likely all the radiation he endured had a negative effect. In 2018, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was very early and non-aggressive, but that took our attention and our time.
The next year our family suffered a terrible tragedy, and it took a while to regroup from that. And then, of course, there was COVID.
In the Spring of 2021, we were both well, and we could see the world beginning to reopen. Dempsey said, “This year is yours. It’s time to make your travel dream come true.” And so we did!
We’re spending fifteen weeks exploring the world, and you’re invited along.
