Amsterdam to Copenhagen was a day-long train ride through Holland, Germany and Denmark, but worth every minute. Copenhagen is amazing, the people, the culture, the history, the architecture and the natural beauty.
By the early 10th century there was a small village where Copenhagen stands today. Bishop Absalon of Roskilde is considered the founder (he’s the fellow on the horse). In 1167, he built a castle on an islet off the coast and surrounded the town with ramparts and a moat. In 1445 Copenhagen was made the capital of Denmark, and designated the residence of the royal family.
